I chose to become a certified nurse midwife due to a culmination of positive experiences throughout my life. It began in my youth; I am the oldest of six children and grew up loving babies and being fascinated by pregnancy. During college, I went to nursing school and was drawn to womens healthcare. I started my nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse. I loved being at births and was honored to have the privilege of participating in such a momentous event in a family's life. During this time period, several of my friends delivered with midwives, and I was present at their births as a support person (un-official doula). I was so impressed with how the midwives provided excellent, patient-centered care and created a calm environment by their presence. When I became pregnant, I knew I wanted midwifery care, and I had a fabulous experience. I knew after the birth of my son that someday I wanted to go back to school and become a midwife. I am strongly committed to providing respectful care that honors the human dignity, individuality and diversity of each person. I believe that women and their families should be empowered to make fully informed decisions about their bodies and their health through evidence-based education. My desire is to form relationships with my patients to provide holistic, personalized care through all stages of life. I particularly love caring for women in labor and desire to support women in all their birth choices (medicated and un-medicated). I am excited to practice in an office that is committed to providing a collaborative model of care, which helps promote the best outcomes for patients. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking with my husband, son and our doodle. My favorite pastimes include reading, drinking tea or coffee, running and practicing yoga. I can often be found in my kitchen whipping up new recipes and experimenting with allergy-friendly foods.
